Discovering high blood pressure (hypertension)
Q. Surely I'm too young to have high blood pressure, doesn't it just affect older people?
A. Unfortunately not.
People can develop high blood pressure at any age, but the amount of people with high blood pressure does increase as we get older. For example:
- just over one in ten men aged 25-34 years have high blood pressure compared with approximately two in five men aged 35-44 years
- the number of women affected at a younger age is less than in men, but is still one in ten women in their 20s.
