Apart from fruit and vegetables, there are other ways that you can increase the amount of potassium in your diet, and give your body a boost of helpful vitamins and minerals.
The following foods are particularly rich in potassium and may be more helpful in controlling blood pressure:
- Tuna (but avoid tuna packed in brine - the saltwater will undo all the good effects)
- Salmon
- Yoghurt
- Fat-free milk
- Eggs
- Macadamia nuts
- Almonds
- Mushrooms
- Bran
- Wheatgerm
- Wholemeal pasta
To make your potassium-boosting diet even more effective, don't forget to cut down on the amount of salt you are eating. For more help, please see our page on How to cut down on salt.
