What guidelines do I need to follow to take part?

Every participant must sign up to the following terms and conditions:

1. Ensure that the person taking blood pressure measurements is qualified to do so as part of their professional role.

2. Have access to an accurate clinically validated blood pressure monitor/ sphygmomanometer. The BPA strongly encourages the use of a monitor listed by the British Hypertension Society. Click here for more details.

3. Agree that no payment will be made to the Pressure Stations either by the BPA or by the individual being tested. (The BPA does, however, reserve the right to use the event for BPA fundraising purposes).

4. Follow BPA guidelines for blood pressure testing, as provided in resource packs

5. Agree to use the BPA resource materials supplied (i.e. posters, leaflets and testing guidelines). See website for details.

6. Provide the BPA with details of each Pressure Station including location(s) and times of testing by Wednesday 27th July.

7. Agree that any promotion of your involvement with the BPA's KYN Week, and any associated PR activities, will be done responsibly and as outlined in the BPA's Media Guide

8. Agree that the medico-legal liability for people and organisations undertaking blood pressure measurement remains with the individual and/or the organisation and not with the Blood Pressure Association.

9. Ensure that the specified payment is made to the Blood Pressure Association to cover the costs of participation. See website for details.

If you are unable to meet any of the above but are still interested in taking part as a Pressure Station, please email kyn@bpassoc.org.uk

How do I calculate the number of resources I need to order?

On average a health professional takes the blood pressure of 7-8 people each hour. Remember to include some materials for display purposes in your order. Please note, 7-8 readings per health professional each hour is only a guide and is dependent upon number of bp readings per person being tested, advice given to person being tested, size of queue etc.

I've taken part before, so do I need to register this year?

Everyone needs to register each year to take part in Know your Numbers! Week.

How do I know that I have registered correctly?

You will only be registered when you have completed both the Contact Form and the Pressure Station Location Form. You will receive a confirmation email after completing both stages of the registration process. If you haven't received your confirmation emails, please check your SPAM/ trash box, as it's possible that your confirmation emails may be automatically put in there by your service provider.

I haven't received my confirmation email, what do I do?

Please ensure that you take a print-out/ screen-shot of the confirmation screen and email this together with the date and time you completed your Contact Form/ Pressure Station Location Form to kyn@bpassoc.org.uk

What is my ID number?

Your ID number is on the Pressure Station Location Form confirmation screen and email. Please keep a note of this as you will need it for your Monitoring and Survey Forms

I've registered, but I need to change some details. How do I do this?

Please email your ID number, name and postcode including the details you need to change to: kyn@bpassoc.org.uk

What is the deadline for registration?

The deadline for registration is

Wednesday 27 July. All Contact Forms and Pressure Station Location Forms (for each venue) must be completed by this date.

Can I conduct other checks, like cholesterol or BMI alongside the blood pressure checks?

Know your Numbers! Week is primarily a blood pressure testing and awareness week. However, we do realise some health professionals will want to use the event to conduct other cardiovascular checks, for example, cholesterol and BMI. If you wish to do this, please ensure that you still follow our terms and conditions regarding your blood pressure testing activities. The Blood Pressure Association has leaflets available to support full cardiovascular checks (blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, BMI) so please email us if you wish to receive these alongside your standard Know your Numbers! Resource Pack.

I would like to run a Pressure Station but don't have a health professional to offer the checks

The first thing to do is to get a health professional to conduct the blood pressure checks, the best area's to source a health professional for this are:

Local pharmacist. A local pharmacist may be able and willing to conduct bp checks for your organisation. It's a way of highlighting their services and highlighting their role in the community.

Your local Primary Care Trust (PCT). Some PCTs are beginning to use screening staff to give health checks to workers. However, this does depend on your local PCT.

Local Occupational Health provider/ nursing agency.

Local gyms/ leisure centres may be willing to conduct bp checks at your company as it's a good way of promoting their facilities and re-enforcing the health benefits of exercise.

How can I pay?

We will invoice everyone after Know your Numbers! Week for the resource materials ordered.
