As you will see below, we have achieved a lot in a short period of time. But this is just the beginning - we want to build on our successes to reach even more people and help them to lower their blood pressure for life.

Our history

  • The Blood Pressure Association was launched in October 2000. It was born out of the shared belief of a number of high blood pressure specialists that everyone had a key role to play in improving their treatment through knowledge and active involvement
  • Early on the charity recognised the importance of understanding and addressing the needs of both health professionals and people with high blood pressure to ensure optimal treatment and prevention. To achieve this it set up two groups to advise staff of the important issues and to guide the organisation's development
  • The charity’s trustee board includes three highly regarded Professors of Cardiovascular Medicine with an international reputation – leaders in their field
  • The charity’s patron is Sir David Attenborough. Since launch the Blood Pressure Association has received support from a wide range of people including the Prime Minister, the Royal Medical Colleges, other voluntary organisations in the field, the Department of Health, the Minister for Public Health

Our achievements

  • The Blood Pressure Association has been named as a winner of The Charity Awards 2008 for its highly regarded Know your Numbers! campaign that tests the blood pressure of more than 250,000 people for free each year
  • The Blood Pressure Association has been runner up as Charity of the Year, highly commended for two booklets at the British Medical Association patient information awards and highly commended in the innovative technology category at the Charity of the Year awards for its interactive lifestyle quiz
  • The Blood Pressure Association was assessed by the charity commission in 2005 and was shown to be an example of good practice
