Lowering the UK's blood pressure for life is an ambitious goal. But one that we believe we can achieve.
To help everyone take control of their blood pressure and make the changes that will lower it for life, we work with the Government, healthcare professionals and the public to offer:
- information
- support
- awareness-raising activities.
What we do
Through our work, our charity:
- stops people losing a family member or loved one because the condition was not detected at all or picked up early enough. (For more information, please see our case studies)
- prevents unnecessary strokes and heart attacks (and therefore early death and disability) because high blood pressure is well controlled and lowered. (Shown by results of our survey)
- helps people with high blood pressure feel more confident, knowledgeable and in control of their condition and its treatment (Shown by results of our survey)
- helps people at high risk of high blood pressure and its consequences be aware of the importance of looking after their blood pressure. We do this by targeting these groups directly (for example African Caribbean, South Asian communities and people aged over 55) through community initiatives and working with the media
- helps people with high blood pressure feel less isolated and confused (shown by the letters of thanks we receive about our magazine Positive Pressure)
- improves the relationship between the patient and their health professional, encourages discussion and concordance with medicines (shown by our survey and feedback about our medicines information projects).
The numbers - how we are doing
